10 Things That Made My Week Better

Happy Friday! Have any Labor Day weekend plans? Here’s what we’re up to + 10 things that have made my life better or more interesting and entertaining lately, including my thoughts on Kelly Wearstler’s MasterClass, three drug-free pain solutions and the most heartwarming show I’ve seen in ages.

This Week At A Glance

Ever since getting back from our Southwest roadtrip last week, I haven’t t felt well. I’ve had a bad cold or allergies and a headache that at times has made me nauseous. (None of the symptoms seem to be Covid, thankfully, and I of course am quarantining to be safe). Also, today I woke up feeling almost 100% better!

All of that to say that A) many of the links below are things that helped me feel better (three drug-free pain solutions, in fact!) and B) we’ll be laying low this weekend.

I hope these things make your weekend better too.

Have a wonderful, safe, long weekend xo.

10 Weekend Links

1. MasterClass

I’ve had a subscription to MasterClass for months now and finally sat down (or rather laid down – in bed) to watch the Kelly Wearstler MasterClass. It was SO good. I’ve always adored the interior design queen (remember this?!) but have a newfound admiration and respect and learned so much by watching the class. Have you taken any MasterClasses? I’d love your recs!

2. Steven Madden Documentary

I had heard rumblings here and there are Steve Madden’s past – and how he made an appearance in Wolf of Wall Street, but it wasn’t until watching Maddman: The Steve Madden Story, that I got the full story of his rise and fall. It’s certainly not dull. Have you seen it?

3. Snoogle

I’ve had the hardest time sleeping comfortably for what seems like years (and probably is). One pillow is too little, two is too much. I feel like I always want to turn my pillow to the side. You know the drill. My neck, my back. My neck, my back! Thankfully, I remembered my old friend, Snoogle. Typically used as a pregnancy pillow, it’s also just a much more comfortable way to sleep. I had used one years ago but then Fred Baby got jealous and made me ditch it. Haha. Snoogle returns!

4. Ice Roller

As mentioned above, I had a crushing headache and couldn’t fall asleep because of it one night. Early the next morning, I was watching my friend Sydne’s Stories and she too was having a terrible headache and was using her ice roller to help alleviate it. I’d done the same in the past but had forgotten about it and am so glad I saw her Stories when I did. Within minutes of ice rolling my face, my headache was gone! This ice roller is under $10 and is a must, not only for headaches, but for calming down skin inflammation and redness too. Do you have one?

 5. Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness

This four-part docu-series on HBO is the most heartwarming thing I’ve watched in ages. Actor Ravi Patel travels the world with his parents, wife and dear friends, exploring topics like aging parents and retirement, parenting (would you let your 6-year-old go out on an errand by themselves?), death, and immigration. It’s a must watch. This weekend I plan to watch his real-life romantic comedy Meet the Patels. Have you seen either?

6. Smartless Podcast

I’m a podcast junkie and my newest obsession is the Smartless podcast hosted by real-life friends Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. When I couldn’t sleep the other night, these three kept me company all night long (I binged ALL the episodes in one night). They’ve talked to everyone from Dax Shepard to Neil deGrasse Tyson and more. Their dynamic is ridiculously fun.

7. Hypnosis Pain Killer Video

My poor sister herniated a disc a few weeks ago and has been in unimaginable pain ever since. She’s been to PT, acupuncture, doctors and neurosurgeons. They’ve given her the strongest drugs and the only thing that has allowed her to sleep at all is this hypno-numbness video on YouTube called Hypnosis: Tranquilizer Pain Killer (one-hour hypno-numbness). I tried it last night and I had the deepest, most restful sleep in forever. I even remember giggling in my sleep and feeling so light-hearted. And I normally have very intense dreams where I’m super angry (yeah, I should probably be in therapy for that). I woke up feeling like a switch had been flipped! I was hesitant to try it because I did not like the idea of being “numb” or “paralyzed” but my sister assured me that wasn’t the case. And it wasn’t — so don’t be scared. If you try it, let me know how it goes for you (amazing that it is free!).

8. Jenn Lake & Bob’s Love Story

My friend, blogger Jenn Lake of Style Charade, just celebrated her 10 year anniversary with her husband Bob. In doing so, she wrote about how they met. I love a good love story and this one doesn’t disappoint. Sidenote: You can read my and Fred Baby’s love story here.

9. Chicken Tikka Masala

After Carly posted this recipe from Half Baked Harvest, we ordered the ingredients right away. We’ll be making this tonight and I’m SO excited. I haven’t had Indian food in over three years. Wish us luck!

10. The Proust Questionnaire

Have you ever heard of The Proust Questionnaire? I blogged it about yesterday, but it’s essentially 35 questions that give you more insight into yourself. I love a good personality test, so Fred Baby and I started taking it last night. We’re doing 5 questions at a time to keep it fun and not overwhelming because some of the questions are pretty deep. You can see all of the questions here.
