BEFORE

You wouldn’t believe what this room looked like before. I will dig up pictures and share them on Instagram Stories or in a future post, but the overall space is a 1-bedroom apartment belonging to my best friend and college roommate. When she moved from Oklahoma back to Austin, she downsized from an entire house in the country to this smaller space in the city.

So for the time being she had a hodgepodge of furniture which no longer went with the style of her new place, and it was all too big for the space. It also wasn’t really reflective of her style and personality, which is bright, bubbly, warm and sunny.

She wanted something to reflect her new life going forward — embracing her femininity — and I also couldn’t resist adding a little glamour.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

Let there be light…a really, really gorgeous light!

The very first thing I did was replace the light that came with the apartment. It was uninspired and didn’t put off nearly enough light.

As I started to think about a color palette and vibe, this gorgeous Alyssa chandelier from Mitzi by Hudson Valley Lighting Group caught my eye.

As a brand ambassador for Hudson Valley Lighting, I’ve had the pleasure of working with them many times before (here + here + here + here) and I’m always amazed at all of the new options they have.

The Alyssa was “the one.” The Golden Girl we’d been looking for…

FURNITURE + DECOR

Speaking of Golden Girls, I was also totally channeling that vibe too (in case that wasn’t clear!). Hence, the Palm Beach-y color palette and mix of gleaming gold with more organic elements like rattan.

This pineapple dining table is EVERYTHING! It’s actually an indoor/outdoor table, but I wanted that vibe: relaxed glamour.

These Paris bistro chairs went perfectly and it was fun to do them in two different hues. Remember I used the same chairs in this Downtown LA Office makeover too? They are surprisingly comfortable!

Carrying on with that theme, this Palms Rug was a no-brainer. To make the space seem bigger, we hung this gold mirror on the wall and it completely made the space seem both bigger and brighter. I LOVE how you see the chandelier in its reflection.

PAINT + DRAPES

As for the rest of our color palette, the goal was soft, feminine and happy.

I chose this beautiful neutral for the walls from Curator Paints called Hackle Feather. Having that as a base allowed us to choose some pieces, like those pink velvet curtains, that really pop.

Speaking of pop, I couldn’t resist adding a little accent wall in the color Running Ride. It goes with the bistro chairs so well and helps delineate the dining space in the open-concept apartment. Here’s the Living Room here (final post on that to come shortly!).

Since the wall already had texture, I was able to turn it into a chalkboard wall! My friend loves inspirational quotes, so I started her off with one of my favorites:

Be a Flamingo in a Flock of Pigeons

Of course, it can be used to write out menus, shopping lists, etc. too.

There you have it!

What do you think?

I hope you love the dining room makeover as much as I do!

I so appreciate you reading and following along. As always I’d love to hear your feedback below xo!
