How To Celebrate Valentines in Quarantine

Will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day? I’m all for any reason to celebrate and our anniversary is actually a few days later on the 18th and it’s a big one (15 years!) so I’ve been trying to think of fun ways we can celebrate in quarantine.  And mind you, most of these ideas apply if you’re celebrating Galentine’s Day or solo too — we all deserve to celebrate, right? Right. Here are a few ideas to get your creativity sparked on how to celebrate Valentine’s Day or your anniversary in quarantine xo…

How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day or Your Anniversary in Quarantine

  • Make pizza together (this gluten-free pizza crust is super easy + good). Bonus points if you make your pizzas in the shape of hearts! Light candles and use the fancy plates and glassware.

  • Make a new recipe together (I’m eyeing these gluten-free gyoza dumplings!).

  • Watch a rom-com, romantic movie or old classic movie (my top 10 romantic comedies here & I can’t wait to check out these too).

  • Like Holly Golightly + Fred Baby in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, spend a whole day doing things you’ve never done before (maybe hold off on the shoplifting, though the masks would totally work!).

  • Explore somewhere new. It’s the pandemic, but even a walk or drive through a new neighborhood or park is fun. I’m hoping to go see the Cabazon Dinosaurs or Sunnylands!

  • Gorge yourself on chocolate (I may or may not have given Fred Baby a not-so-subtle hint to order my favorite cake).

  • Enjoy some champagne while you’re at it, or start the day with a champagne brunch at home (these popovers are perfection & easy peasy to make). I want to make a champagne tower for our anniversary!

  • Watch a virtual live performance (I did NOT think this would be fun, but our friends gifted us this amazing show at The Geffen for Christmas and it was phenomenal.) I got us tickets to Mike Birbiglia’s Zoom comedy show this Sunday, but check Nowhere Comedy Club, EventBrite or the websites of your local theaters, comedians and performers for more ideas. I’m also hanging out with Oprah on Saturday!

  • Speaking of, did you know you could enjoy Modernism Week virtually this year? Find tickets here & then get excited for April’s in-person Modernism Week events!

  • Revisit the past…and the future. Ponder favorite memories from past Valentine’s Days together or your wedding, honeymoon, etc. And then talk about what you’re looking forward to doing together once the pandemic is over (a trip together, a honeymoon part II, a big anniversary party once you can safely see friends and family again).

  • Travel to Italy by watching Roman Holiday, Under the Tuscan Sun or Stanley Tucci’s new show Searching for Italy

  • Play a game or learn something new. I think the thing we’re all missing lately is novelty. Shake up your brain and have some fun by playing a fun or challenging game or watching a MasterClass. We’ve had some of our more fun nights this year cracking up over how little we know at Trivial Pursuit. And I’m dying to watch Issa Rae’s new MasterClass.

  • Go to a drive-in movie. So many places are popping up, which is such a fun retro throwback! Just Google “drive-in movie theater + the name of your town.”

  • Or book a private viewing at a movie theater! More options here.

  • Play tennis together, perhaps the safest sport that can be done during a pandemic, love love.

  • If you’re able + feel comfortable, book a vacation rental house for a few days. In Palm Springs, Acme is great. For everywhere else, there’s VRBO and One Fine Stay.

  • Go rollerskating, rollerblading or biking (I just remembered we have a tandem bike – time to put it to use!).

  • Have fun in the kitchen recreating a memorable meal together. We both still dream of our meal(s) at De Gelsomina in Capri (the restaurant so nice we went there TWICE in ONE DAY).

  • Go on a picnic – indoors or out!

  • Plan a scavenger hunt.

  • Light up the whole house with candles.

Did any of these pique your interest or get the wheels spinning? If you have any ideas, I’m all ears!

p.s. What’s your love language? How about your partners? Take the quiz here. If it’s spending quality time together, I hope the above helped! If it’s gifts, this Valentine’s Day Gift Guide might help. Cheers xo!

p.p.s. Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate!
