One of the most fun things about Fashion Week is pushing the boundaries of what you would normally wear, whether it’s playing with prints or stepping out in up-and-coming designers that many have never heard of. Which was the case with this new designer discovery.
Dora Abodi is a rising designer from Budapest and the moment I laid eyes on her unexpected prints I was hooked. When I wore this look out on the streets of New York I was stopped repeatedly and asked who I was wearing and told that it looked like a Matisse. Arty prints for the win!
The inclination when wearing statement prints is to veer towards neutral accessories, which is normally a safe bet. But why zig when you can zag? Fashion should be fun so why not experiment! Somehow adding gingham heels, a snakeskin clutch and leopard-print sunglasses works. The trick to all of this prints mixing is that all of the colors in the individual pieces relate to each other, which creates a cohesive look rather than a Mrs.-Roper-is-tripping-on-acid-again situation.
