Okay, she might not know she’s my new bestie, but, well, whatevs. Let’s not get all technical here. This weekend, the amazeballs Giuliana Rancic and her Apprentice star husband Bill Rancic hosted a yard sale in Brentwood, where they were selling Giulianas’ E! wardrobe to benefit ongoing relief efforts in Haiti.
While we got there at the tail end of things, I was still able to score an adorable navy silk dress for just $10, some cute black dress shorts for $5 and a cool white asymmetrical tee for $5. Only in LA do the yard sales entail meeting your idols. And I even got to meet Giuliana’s mom, Mama DePandi! In fact, she drove a hard bargain and even tried to convince my darling K to buy this Rachel Zoe muu muu for himself.
Despite Mama DePandi’s gentle urgings, he refrained (too bad, that really could have kicked off a new look for him). And I refrained from telling Giuliana that we have a total couples crush on her and Bill. And that I’ve loved her since her first days at E! News. And that I can’t wait for the next season of Giuliana & Bill (G&B camera crews were there filming!). And that I loved their book. And that she is hy-sterical on Fashion Police. And that she’s my idol and I want to be her when I grow up. Instead of asking her to be my BFF, we chatted about our websites and daily newsletters (hers is FabFitFun and mine is, well, you’re reading it). I did turn into a 14-year-old and muttered, “I’m, like, your biggest fan,” to which, instead of replying “freak!”, she graciously said “you’re so sweet.” We followed up the stellar morning with another first, lunch at Barney’s Gourmet Hamburgers in Brentwood, where for the first time in my life, I ordered a hot dog. And, like the morning, it was so good. And something I’ll never forget. Thanks, G. Looking forward to double dating!
p.s. I promised my husband that if I posted what he deems an embarrassing photo of him, that I would post one of me, hence the picture of me in his oversized blazer – brrr, it was cold!
