I’m so happy to be home after two weeks of roadtripping around the country. And I’m even happier to get to share Part One of this makeover of Fred Baby’s office that we did with Troy Lighting! For more pics of this masculine midcentury modern office makeover, read on!

MIDCENTURY MODERN OFFICE MAKEOVER PART ONE
First things first, when our house, Villa Golightly, was chosen at the Modernism Week Showhouse a few years ago, we were so lucky to have Michel Smith Boyd design Fred Baby’s office. We ADORE Michel. You may know Michel from the Bravo series Buying It Blind, but his style is as impeccable as he is handsome.
So an amazing foundation was already laid for Fred Baby’s office and remains – the Maranta Arrowroot Grass Cloth wallpaper, the drapes, the David Chair by Christopher Kennedy that sits handsomely in the corner. And my favorite part, which Fred Baby actually came up with, those floors by Crossville!
You can see the BEFORE PICS here in Traditional Home.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, after the showhouse ended, some things stayed and some things went. Sadly the incredible desk that was in this room was just on loan, so Fred Baby’s been making due by putting two white Parsons-style desks that we already had together. Which isn’t too shabby. But, in Part Two of this makeover, prepare for a very cool desk makeover!
But for this first step in the makeover process, we focused on lighting. The fixture that was here before was totally fine, but didn’t really resonate 100% with Fred Baby. He wanted something that was a little bigger, a bit more midcentury and architectural. A bit more of a statement.
Enter the Hendrix light by Troy Lighting.
Isn’t it great? It almost feels like a mobile art installation.
This is the 44”W x 10” H version in chemical bronze (aka black with brass sphere accents).
It also comes in silver, which we almost went with, but thought this made a bit more impact since there was already so much gray in the room. There’s a 62”W version too, should you love it but need something larger.
What do you think? Do you love it it?
We’re happy with the choice!
What’s great is that in this room, where the ceilings are only 8 feet high, it hangs close to the ceiling (without being flush mount) but is nice and wide, so it takes up horizontal space, without compromising on vertical space, which we didn’t have.
Stay tuned for Part Two of Fred Baby’s Midcentury Modern Office Makeover soon!
