OUR PALM SPRINGS DOORS MAKEOVER

First, a reminder that we had YOU guys vote over on my Instagram Stories on what color we would paint our front doors.

As you probably know, Palm Springs doors are a THING. They’re an institution in Palm Springs, works of art in their own right (literally, Fred Baby & I have a fine art photo collection of the colorful Palm Springs doors), so you can’t just have any old doors. If you want to be a part of the Palm Springs community, you owe it Palm Springs to have some statement doors!

We narrowed it down to two paint colors by Curator Paints, an Irish luxury paint company that recently debuted in the States. If you’re in Palm Springs, you can find Curator exclusively at our Dunn-Edwards store and other select Dunn-Edwards stores around the LA area. You can look up availability here.

ABOUT CURATOR PAINTS

One very cool thing about Curator is that they teamed up with Irish artisans and designers to create the paint colors that make up the palette. While they have a large variety of gorgeous colors, as you might have guessed by their name, it’s also a very curated palette. So you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose.

THE TWO CURATOR PAINT COLORS WE CHOSE & YOU VOTED ON

Fred Baby and I narrowed it down to two colors:

1. Hearth of Home  — a vibrant tomato orange

and…

2. Great Drying — a serene blue

It was VERY close but Great Drying inched out Hearth of Home by a narrow margin.

What do you think? Are you happy that blue beat out orange?

WHAT WE THINK OF OUR NEW PALM SPRINGS DOORS

Both Fred Baby and I LOVE how the doors turned out for our Palm Springs Doors makeover. It’s very soothing and welcoming and happy. All things we want people to feel when they’re at our home.

While I initially was leaning towards the orange and still think it could work, many of you pointed out that it might be too matchy matchy with our Spanish tile roof.

The blue is a nice contrast and looks good with the white stucco house and the brilliant blue sky.

THE SURPRISE ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOORS

As for the inside of the doors, we wanted that to be surprise. So instead of doing blue on both sides, we chose this pretty pink hue called Rose Mantle.

I’ve always wanted a pink door of my own (#thatpinkdoor), but Fred Baby wasn’t as gung-ho about that for our front doors. Haha. But he totally was on board for it on the inside of the front doors, as it really complements our interior color palette – white, gold and pale pink.

What do you think? Do you love the Rose Mantle pink as much as I do? Would love to hear your thoughts!

WHY TO PAINT YOUR FRONT DOORS

Painting your front doors is such a fun, easy way to change up the vibe of your home. Think of it like getting a new haircut or a new pair of shoes. It’s not a huge investment but can make everything feel fresh and brand new.

It only took one half-day to paint the doors. And, for those curious, our painter charged $300 to paint our doors. So in the end, the project is under $500. That’s pretty good for having SUCH an impact on your home.

We said from the beginning of owning our house, when we first had to choose a door color, that we would have fun with it and change things up every few years. We loved the yellow, but were ready for a change, and this was a fun way to do it!

WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU PAINT YOUR FRONT DOORS?

STAY TUNED…

And stay tuned, as I’ll be partnering with Curator again on my friend’s Bachelorette Pad project and my niece-to-be’s Nursery! All coming this January and February…

It’s going to be a colorful start to the New Year!

p.s. Our painters were amazed at how easy Curator Paints were to apply and thrilled with how quickly they dried. They initially thought it would be a two-day project, but they were here for less than a half-day (and TBH, that was after they accidentally painted the inside of the doors blue by mistake and had to fix it). Pretty great all around!

Brought to you in partnership with Curator Paints. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting our sponsors, who make the Golightly magic possible!
