My dears, have you ever been to a sample sale? How about a shopping party? How about both at the same time? Lucky Shops LA, Lucky magazine’s giant shopping party and sample sale, took place last week and I had the pleasure of attending — twice.
At Thursday night’s invite-only VIP preview, I ran into my favorite fellow LA fashion bloggers: Glitter ‘n Glue’s Kristen Turner ( to my left), Think Thru Fashion’s Sydne Summer (to my right in a bold blue French Connection dress), Dedicated Follower of Fashion’s Kelsi Smith, Tiara The Dope Girl and the always dapper Mr. Cuit.
We nibbled adorable cake pops, browsed through racks of designer clothing in search of deals, and even battled spotted a few celebrities, like glowing mom-to-be Selma Blair and Gossip Girl’s resident bad girl Michelle Trachtenberg (see paparazzi shot below).
Apparently, Whitney Port (who I totally have a style crush on), Rashida Jones, Cat Deeley and Mandy Moore were there too, but yours truly was too knee deep in complimentary cake pops to notice. Fiddlesticks.
As you might have surmised from my ghostly pallor, I wasn’t feeling my best (no worries, it wasn’t anything that a hot dog after seeing my bestie couldn’t fix…huh?). So I threw on something easy: a comfy babydoll dress (that I picked up at another shopping event like this a few years ago in New York), a cocktail ring (White House Black Market), my trusty Damia satchel (Annie Handbags), and some colorful Calypso heels (from yet another sample sale; note to self: you like a good deal, lady).
I didn’t get to ask this Lucky bitch what she was wearing, but it totally made her eyes pop.
Right?
Speaking of wardrobe envy, I really wanted this Rebecca Taylor dress, but it wasn’t for sale. Or it was and I missed it. You have to be quick at these sample sales (Another sample sale tip: Wear a slip or tank under your clothing so you can easily try things on quickly without being super embarrassed, as there are usually no dressing rooms).
I actually didn’t end up buying anything on the first night, but was totally green with envy that Kelsi scored an emerald frock from Wren for only $10. Curse me for hanging out by the cake pops all night!
No matter. I returned the next day with my friend Darcy of The Voide and scored a watercolor print Wren dress of my own — which will be making its debut tonight at my birthday party. Speaking of, I must run and prep! I’ll be back next week with party pics and my favorite designer discovery from LuckyShops LA – a line I know you’ll love. Until then, I wish you a gorgeous weekend and leave you with this week’s highlights:
Matthew Williamson for Macy’s + $25 off?! You are welcome.
Party Decor Under $10 – love stripey straws and mustachios!
Five Unique Easter Gifts for the design-inclined.
Yardsale-ing with Giuliana Rancic, my new BFF!
