nuance salma hayek reviews argan oil glossing shampoo and conditioner; nuance salma hayek black currant intense hydration hair mask; hair products that actually work

You know how I finally got my hair cut a few weeks ago and I made the leap to get a few partial highlights too on my born-again hair (the first time color has been on my hair in 15 years)? Well I loved both for the first few days and then something happened….

My hair got really, really dry. Like straw dry. I’m no stranger to dry hair. Which is why I only shampoo once every two weeks or so (yes, you heard that right). But this was dry on another level. It seemed the color had changed the texture of my hair. I was afraid to brush it for fear it might break. It was driving me bonkers. I tried shampooing and conditioning it. I tried not washing it. Both left me with brittle hair I couldn’t comb through. I was beginning to regret taking a break from myself and taking a chance (albeit a small beauty one). Until…

I tried Nuance by Salma Hayek. (I know, this is sounding like an infomercial, but I’m not making a dime.) Flipping through the channels one day while we were traveling last month, I stopped on Rachael Ray because my lover, Regis, was on. But after Regis, Salma Hayek was on promoting her line of hair and skincare products, Nuance.

I normally turn pretty skeptical, like Judge Judy-level skeptical, when a celebrity is toting their line of anything, but Salma demo’d some of the products on women from the audience in real-time and I could actually tell a difference immediately. I’m not one to try new beauty products. Which is why you don’t see me writing about them here on Kelly Golightly. If I find something that works, I stick with it (Basis face wash, Oil of Olay moisturizer, Dr. Pepper Lip Balm, and Bare Minerals foundation have been staples for years). My skin only breaks out if I try something new. So I avoid it…

But my mom is the opposite. She’s a beauty junkie and loves trying new products so I instantly knew what I’d be getting her for Mother’s Day this year (plus, she loves Rachael Ray). I anxiously awaited Mom’s findings: The products worked! Not only did she love them, so did my six-year-old niece (well, the shampoo and conditioner, that is). “My hair is so soft, Grandma,” said Kaylee, who is my beauty icon.

So when my hair went south after the highlights, I thought I might as well try it. And you know what? I’m happy to report that it does work, brilliantly. I used the Argan Oil Glossing Shampoo, Argan Oil Glossing ConditionerBlack Currant Intense Hydration Hair Mask and Smooth & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum.

The whole Nuance line was inspired by Salma Hayek’s grandmother – who used Native American and Mayan salves and potions to stay looking her best — and costs $7.99-$19.99 at CVS. (And when I was there a few days ago, the whole Nuance line was BOGO 50% off.)

I’m also giving the Renewed Radiance Nutrifying Night Cream and the Renewing & Brightening Facial Serum a whirl. Stay tuned for the results…
