how to wear bright tights; what to wear to a baby shower; how to wear glittery shoes; where to find sparkly shoes; how to style a yellow dress; how to wear blue tights

We spent the past few days in San Francisco, meeting baby Marni and celebrating the upcoming arrival of our new niece (eee!) at my sister-in-law’s baby shower. Here is what I wore to the high tea baby shower.

It’s weird to think I used to climb these steps — just a few blocks down from the more trafficked and famous Lyon Street Steps — quite regularly when we lived in San Francisco. I have very vivid memories of talking to my mom on the phone as I tackled the stairs, between gasping for air and looking at the Billionaire’s Row mansions and awe-inspiring views afforded from the perch of Pacific Heights.

Looking back, despite meeting some wonderful people and lots of great memories, on the whole I was very blue when we lived in San Francisco. That’s the funny thing about having a mean case of the reds (or blues) — sometimes you don’t really know it until after the fact, when you are happy and can look back and see how different you feel now versus then. Know what I mean? So thank you, Mom, for keeping me company on all those uphill climbs, both literally and figuratively.

And thank you to to TSA guy at SFO, who when I was feeling a little blue about heading home alone on Saturday night, as Fred Baby headed off from a different terminal to Barcelona for work, said to me, “Come on through Smurf legs,” and made me laugh when I needed it. I have always depended on the kindness of strangers…
