When I was asked to be a LEGENDS ambassador, one of the first thoughts that ran through my head was “What am I going to wear!?” LEGENDS, the premiere design event on the West Coast, is all about inspiring panels with design’s finest during the day and flossy magazine parties at night. Add to that you have the opportunity to meet your design heroes and idols (Kelly Wearstler!) and the idea of getting dressed can become a bit daunting. So I thought I’d share what I wore in hopes that it might help you if you’re attending LEGENDS (or something like it) for the first time next year (and you really should!).
What I wore & who I met at LEGENDS… Let me know which look is your favorite!
For the opening night gala, I had no idea what to expect so I went for a mix of low-key (simple black top and cardigan) with glam (statement skirt and heels). I’m glad I added the glam since there was a red carpet involved! They say you can never be too overdressed, but while that’s partly true, you can feel awkward if you’re dressed up more than everyone else at the party. Which is why I always like to temper a look with something a bit more casual (like a cardigan or a vest) to go for that “I just threw this on” kind of look.
Just like when decorating a room, I also never like for an outfit to look too new or too vintage — too new and it feels inauthentic; too vintage and it feels costumey…it’s all about the mix and was fitting with the LEGENDS 2013 Time Capsule theme — so I added vintage earrings and a bracelet, plus a necklace that looked vintage, but was really brand new (from LOFT!). I got a billion compliments and inquiries on that necklace, which just goes to show that style has no price.
Here I am above with fellow LEGENDS ambassadors Alissa Swedlow of The Goods Design and Megan Arquette of Beach Bungalow 8. Outfit details here.

The next morning, we started the day with our blogger breakfast at the lovely Lee Stanton courtyard. My feet needed a break from high heels the night before and I knew I’d be walking to many different locations for panels and events, so planned my outfit around my shoes: vintage Ferragamo kitten heels from my mother-in-law. To say those shoes were lifesavers would be an understatement (thank you mami!). However, fellow ambassador and blogger Alissa of The Goods Designs was even smarter with cute red flats (I’d highly recommend flats or at least having them in your bag so you can swap out between events).
I went with a daytime white dress and added the same jewels and cardigan as the previous night, but this time tied the cardigan around my shoulders. I’m not normally matchy-matchy when it comes to shoes and bags, but couldn’t resist this red satchel.
The look was comfy but polished enough for the beautiful Elle Decor lunch at Rose Tarlow, too.

Later that evening, I attended the Traditional Home Tribute Party at Lee Stanton and had time to run home beforehand. I switched things up with waxed denim, instead of a dress, and added a flowy blouse, vintage vest, chevron bag and chunky heels (all the better to navigate the pebble courtyard).

The next day was all about what to wear to meet Kelly Wearstler. I debated wearing my Kelly Wearstler pieces, but for one reason or another didn’t (which was kind of silly looking back). Instead I went with a solid green blouse, floral architectural skirt and mint heels. After meeting Kelly Wearstler, I was on a total high after she told me she loved my social media (die!), and practically floated over to the Domaine panel and party, where I finally got to meet Mat Sanders, who did not disappoint.
Then it was on to the Veranda magazine finale party at Sherle Wagner. Amazing decor, drinks and acrobats aside, the highlight was when I went to leave. As we were waiting for the valet, I looked up and saw Dara Caponigro (editor of Veranda and mastermind behind Domino) waiting for her car and seized the opportunity to say hello (and get a picture with her). Which was the icing on the LEGENDS cupcake (and my final check on my Who I’m Most Excited to Meet at LEGENDS list).

You were stunning in all of them, but the pink skirt was my favorite. Wow!
You look great in all your outfits, but I really like the outfit you wore to see Kelly Wearstler.
