how to staycation in style

We could all use a getaway right about now, am I right? But even if a vacation might be a little while off, it doesn’t mean we can’t staycation at home. I teamed up with J.McLaughlin — who makes this palm leaf jumpsuit — in honor of their new store opening in Palm Desert, to share tips on how to staycation in style. Check out these 6 Tips for Staycationing in Style + let me know if you have anything to add!

How To Staycation in Style

1. Put Down Your Phone

Phones are okay for staycation under one condition: If you’re listening to a book or a fun podcast. But escapism is the name of the game on vacation AND staycation, so put your devices onto airplane mode and enjoy the gift of screen-free time. Trust me, it feels so good, you’ll want to staycate all the time.

2. Read a Good {Bad} Book

Speaking of escapism, there’s no better time to pick up an actual physical book — or stack of mags — than on vacation. The same is true on staycation. May I recommend something light, fluffy and frothy? Remember, books can set such a mood, so this may not be the time for War and Peace.

3. Make a Fun Drink

Whether you jazz up your sparkling water with fresh lime or lemon, whip up a new-to-you cocktail or mocktail, or go for a juicy smoothie, make sure you make it special with a non-everyday glass. It’s all in the details and novelty shakes things up and makes you feel more like you’re on vacation. I’ll leave it to your imagination to guess what’s in my pink, gold-rimmed vintage glass…

4. Play Music

Okay, you might need your phone for this, but notice how when you’re at a fancy resort, there’s always lowkey music playing in the background? Embrace the same idea and play some fun tunes. I love Celia Cruz and Sinatra while in staycation mode. And dance while you’re at it!

5. Indulge

Indulgence means different things to different people, but it’s vacation, er… staycation, so relax and indulge a little. If that means enjoying some chocolate-covered strawberries or frozen grapes, so be it. Or perhaps a long bath complete with spa-at-home face masks and treatments is your idea of the ultimte indulgence. Whatever it is, truly indulge in the experience. Note: If you can convince your loved one(s) to fan you with a palm leaf, all the better. Even better if it’s a giant pink palm leaf. 🙂

6. Dress the Part

Last, and certainly not least, vacation is always a fun time to step it up in the wardrobe department. For the perfect island-chic vibes, I lazed around in this tropical-print jumpsuit, which is incredibly comfortable. And while it’s perfect poolside, I also can’t wait for some day in the near future to wear it out and about to meet up with friends! Also, IT HAS POCKETS!!!

SHOP THE LOOK

This palm print jumpsuit is from J.McLaughlin, who just opened a new store in Palm Springs! Well, technically in Palm Desert right on El Paseo — “the Rodeo Drive of the Desert.” If you’re local, check it out, but if not, you can shop the entire collection online right here.

Fit Tip:

I’m wearing an XS and am normally more of a Small. So I’d recommend sizing down one. I’m small up top so am able to go without a bra — so it’s truly so easy and comfy to wear. I’m 5’3″ and a HALF (haha, that half is important!) and about 115 lbs, if that helps.

My sandals and sunnies are also J.McLauhglin. These sunnies are fantastic! Also very comfy (not too tight) and they’re big but not TOO big. My favorite. I’m also wearing them here.

Spring Favorites

I’ve linked more of my favorites from the spring collection below, but would love to hear which pieces strike your fancy and make you feel like taking a vacation…or a staycation this spring!
