Yesterday I awoke and realized it was my birthday, a small fact I had forgotten as the days have been so all over the map as of late (quite literally). Fred Baby sweetly presented me with a menu of options that went something like this:
Option A) Sunset hot air balloon ride in Del Mar or…
Option B) Drive to wine country for dinner or…
Option C) Play tourists in our own town and do whatever, whenever — or nothing at all.
Never has doing nothing sounded more appealing. So, option C it was. (I took a raincheck on options A and B, of course — I may be exhausted but I’m not insane!).
We strolled through Beverly Hills, stopping to smell the roses along the way. We stumbled upon kooky houses and spunky snails and jump ropes that made me think of my childhood, while laughing with friends and family on the phone.
When hunger called, we popped into my favorite Mexican restaurant for al fresco enchiladas suizas and fresh guacamole made tableside. When we returned home for an afternoon siesta, I found waiting for me the prettiest bouquets from Fred Baby and our dear friends, The Ewings (that’s their nickname from us; they playfully call us The Gatsbys). We love them.
Hours later, lounging languidly on the couch, I realized the sun was starting to set (that’s not a metaphor; I’m still young-ish!). I didn’t want to miss it, so grabbed my main squeeze and headed for a rooftop.
We danced and twirled and watched the sun descend on Los Angeles, who had gifted us with sunkissed weather.
It was a simple, sweet day filled with magical little moments.
We ended the night at Caulfield’s, where handcrafted cocktails and delicious nibbles provided a sweet finish to the day’s non-festivities festivities.
And, then we bid the town adieu for the night as we took in LA’s twinkling lights from the rooftop of the Thompson Beverly Hills.
Thank you to everyone, especially my darling Fred Baby, for making the day so special.
