Pool Cover Ups & Tunics for Chic, Easy Days at the Pool or Beach

Spring is here (which is kind of our summer in Palm Springs), which means one thing: pool season! But what to wear over your swimsuit when you’re lounging in the sun — or under an umbrella, taking a dip, or grabbing a nibble or bevvie? Pool cover ups and tunics are the perfect solution. And honestly, they’re something I wear even when I’m not having a pool day because they’re just so easy to toss on and so stylish too (for instance, I wore this tunic today for peeking at at open houses in Palm Springs). Here are some of my favorite pool cover ups and tunics for chic, easy days at the pool or beach  — or simply running around town!

9 Types of Pool Cover-Ups I Love

Sharing nine types of pool cover-ups I love wearing below!

Tassel-Trimmed & Embroidered Tunics

This playful pastel-striped embroidered tunic is perfect for the beach or pool. It has an effortless yet special vibe that’s both trendy and stylish. The lightweight fabric makes it easy to slip on and off over your swimsuit, and the loose fit ensures you’ll stay cool and comfortable all day long. Look for tunics with intricate details and colorful stitching, which will complement your swimsuit and give you a relaxed, resort-like feel. This is a versatile piece that you can wear to the beach, pool, or out to dinner. Flowy Midi & Maxi Dresses

For a more sophisticated look, try a flowy midi dress or maxi dress in a light, breathable fabric like cotton or linen. This style is perfect for going from the pool to lunch or drinks at a nearby restaurant. Choose a bright, summery color or a bold pattern to make a statement. This one is especially chic.

Crochet Coverups

A crochet coverup is a classic choice for the beach and always gives jet-set vibes. Choose a crochet style in a neutral color like white or tan, which will go with any swimsuit or go bold in a bright color like this pink crochet cover up or pattern for a pop. The intricate detailing of the crochet adds a touch of sophistication to your beach look, and the open knit fabric allows your skin to breathe. It feels both a little bohemian and a little sexy at the same time.

Oversized Shirt Dresses

An oversized shirt dress or boyfriend shirt is a great option for a laid-back, effortless look. Choose one in a lightweight fabric like linen, cotton or chambray, and leave it unbuttoned for a casual vibe. You can also add a belt to cinch in your waist and create a more fitted silhouette. This style is perfect for a day at the beach or a poolside barbecue and gives classic, preppy vibes.

Caftans

No surprise that I love a good caftan. Here’s my Ultimate Caftan Guide for proof! A caftan is a timeless piece that can take you from the pool to a beach party or out to dinner. A cute little caftan is perfect for when you want a little more coverage but still want to feel chic and comfortable. Stylest has quick-drying lace caftans and coverups, which are genius for the beach or pool. And I love this easy classic striped caftan too that feels very French and effortless. Also, I am in LOVE with this new pink-and-red caftan!

Sarongs/Pareos

Sarongs and pareos are versatile pieces that can be worn in many different ways. Tie one around your waist as a skirt or wrap it around your body as a dress. Look for one in a bright, summery print to add some color to your beach look. Swim skirts are great too, as they’re often in the same material as a swimsuit.

Kimonos

A kimono or robe is a great option for a more bohemian look.  A kimono can be worn over your swimsuit or paired with shorts and a tank for a stylish daytime look.

Palazzo Pants

Palazzo pants or swim pants are a great option if you want a little more coverage. Look for a pair in a lightweight, quick-drying fabric land choose a style with a drawstring waist for a comfy fit. Swim pants can be worn with a tank top or swim shirt for a sporty, beach-ready look, or just solo with your swimsuit!

Terry Cloth

I’m loving the terry trend the past few years and terry cloth is great for the pool and beach. I’m loving terry rompers, dresses and matching co-ord sets for slipping over your suit.

When choosing a coverup, just make sure to choose a comfortable, lightweight fabric that’s easy to wear. Whether you opt for an embroidered tunic, flowy dress, crochet, boyfriend shirt, caftan, pareo, kimono, swim pants, or terry, you’ll be set for a relaxed day at the pool or beach in style.
